Brownie Newman responds to M.O.M….

Why are you running for Asheville City Council?

I want Asheville to be a great place for people to live, work and raise a family not just a nice place for tourists to visit.

The second reason I am running is that I believe in politics as a way to do good for the community. I have seen what this community can do when people come together around a positive vision. The passage of the NC Clean Smokestacks Act is a testimony to our community's ability to solve complex, long-standing problems. I want to bring the spirit of leadership and cooperation that enabled us to pass the Clean Smokestacks Act to Asheville City Council. None of us have all the answers to the issues, but if we work together as a community, I know we can find them. akku mugen Google Nexus S akku mugen Google Nexus S

What prepares you to be an effective Council member?

Six years experience, Executive Director of Western North Carolina Alliance.

Past President, Coalition of Asheville Neighborhoods.

BA, Political Science and History, Warren Wilson College.

Fellow, North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership.

My wife Beth and I, along with our friend Matt Kern, have started a small business (Altamont Builders LLC). We plan to build a small number of attractive, affordable single family homes over the next several years. I found a sample essay, possibly better Argumentative Essay. I received excellent.

I have good working relationships with the existing members of Asheville City Council (even those I usually disagree with). I also have positive working relationships with all the members of the Buncombe County delegation to the NC General Assembly. This is very important because Asheville must request permission from the Legislature before taking many actions.
